First off, this season of Curb: whoa.
Secondly, Larry David reminds me of how gutsy Seinfeld was. Besides the whole “nothing” and “yada yada,” Seinfeld went some dark places no network sitcom would consider going today and examined humanity - all our tics and quirks, both kind-hearted and depraved - with such honesty and humor that I’m amazed people actually liked it and watched. Talking about female birth control at 9/8c seems out of the question now.
The four of them were terrible people, but we loved them because we couldn’t help but recognize ourselves in their constant anxiety and travails. What yuppie hasn’t worried about being that “white” couple? When is a Tweety Pez dispenser not funny? Who hasn’t wanted to eat the eclair on the top of the trash?
